ROYAL PRIDE WEEKLY
March 8, 2024
Hello Royals Family!
We are launching into a beautiful spring weekend and I hope this message finds our entire community safe and secure.
As I write this message, we are making last minute preparations for our Annual Family Bingo Night on campus and I am looking forward to seeing many, many members of our community out at this event. If you missed the date for ticket sales, please be looking for it next year, around this same time as we are hoping to continue this family-friendly event for many years to come.
For the past two years the Bingo night has nominally concluded our “All In for Mission” week. As most of you will be aware, tuition at MCP only covers about 90% of the annual costs to operate the school. We are blessed with a modest endowment that off-sets about 5% of our operating costs but the other remaining 5% of costs must come from annual fundraising events and initiatives. The major events of the fundraising year include the Annual Dinner Auction, the Alumni Golf Tournament, and our “All In for Mission” week. We are very blessed for the hundreds of families and supporters every year who, through their generosity, have directly impacted every single student (and kept tuition as low as possible).
Having taught and administered in Catholic schools for nearly thirty years, I can personally attest that we benefit from a deep legacy of the families, students, teachers, coaches, moderators, and community members who, before any of us ever set foot on these sacred spaces, invested of their time, their talent, and yes, their treasure. We are the school we are today, because of the incredible generosity of countless generations who came before us. I pray that generosity only continues.
Looking forward just in the next few hours we have many fun events planned for this weekend (from sports to bingo to dances) but wherever you are, I hope your family enjoys a weekend of peace, success, and joy!
Yours in Christ,
Mike Susank
Principal

Lenten Phone Fast
As a schoolwide initiative, we want to remind all students and faculty & staff (and we invite parents too) of our school’s Lenten phone fast that begins Wednesday, February 14th. Our fasting will run from 8:30am–2:40pm each day. We do not want to see any phones out at break, at lunch, during passing periods, in the hallways, in the bathrooms, etc. We hope this is a time for all of us to better connect. Let’s embrace this beautiful opportunity to be more engaged with one another. Our Lenten phone fast will go up until Easter break. Wishing you all blessings on this Lenten journey.

MCP MathWorks Team
A big shout-out to the two Mission College Prep MathWorks Math Modeling Challenge teams. These dedicated students spent 14 continuous hours on Saturday, March 2nd, or on Sunday, March 3rd digging into this year’s challenge of creating a mathematical model to understand how the housing shortage and homeless populations are intertwined crises from a long-term perspective. The two crises are exacerbated by unforeseen circumstances such as natural disasters, humanitarian crises, and economic downturns. Their models are designed to help governments make plans not just for the next several years, but for the next several decades. The groups worked with data for Seattle, WA, and Albuquerque, NM.
This year’s teams were:
Seniors - Evan Collier, Bella Graza, Isa Rosales, Neill Safreno, Ava Szytel
Juniors - Matt Daniels, Jake Long, Bruno Monroe, Serena Mu

Athletics
Athletics Update:
The winter season has officially come to an end and our spring sports are in full focus.
Please congratulate our Boys Basketball athletes for an incredible journey this season. The last 3 weeks in particular have been an amazing ride with a trip to the CIF Central Section Finals and an appearance in the CIF State Regional Semi Finals. These "cardiac kids" played their hearts out in every game, winning some thrillers at the end and even into overtime. This is a young team with several key players back next year but they will definitely miss the senior leadership of Luke Jacobson. Make sure you give him an extra shout out for all of his contributions to MCP Basketball!!!
