Principal's Message

Mike Susank

Dear Families and Friends,

On behalf of the entire Mission College Preparatory Catholic High School community of teachers, administrators, staff, coaches, and moderators, I welcome you all to what will be another amazing school year at MCP.

Our roots in San Luis Obispo can be traced all the way back to the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, an order of religious women first assembled in in Spain in the mid-1800s.  This group of faith-filled women arrived in California in the 1870’s and founded nearly a dozen schools and outreach ministries up and down the state, including the first Catholic High School in San Luis Obispo-the Academy of the Immaculate Heart, on this very site in 1876.

Today, Mission College Prep is a ministry of the Diocese of Monterey and we are continuing in our sacred mission to bring students “to deeper life with God and deeper life with one another.”  Our mission is in alignment with the Good News of the Gospels and it echoes the words of Christ who commanded, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” And, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37-39).

It is our commitment to these gospel values that govern every aspect of student life at MCP; in the classroom, on the field, on the stage, at mass, in the hallways, and out in our community.  We are always aware that parents are the primary educators of their children and so we do these things in partnership with families.  We are thankful for the trust of the nearly 300 families in our community who have placed their students in our care, and for the thousands and thousands of families who have done so over the past century at MCP.

The responsibility we all share in this ministry is both profound and humbling.  We are eager to take on another year of excellence in all aspects of student formation and whether you are a visitor to our school website, a parent, or a graduate, we are pleased to engage with you and we thank you for your generous participation in our mission.  Through this engagement we hope to achieve ever increasing levels of vitality and spirit within our school community.

All my best,

  Mike Susank
