ROYAL PRIDE WEEKLY
February 9, 2024
Hello Royals Family!
Easter is still many weeks away, but as the highest holiday in the Christian tradition, as we approach Easter Sunday, we are called to spend several weeks in self-preparation and reflection. We call this 40 days of reflection Lent; and during this time, we are called to three things: to increase the frequency and depth in our prayer lives, to increase and deepen our acts of charity, and to practice some (or many) forms of self-sacrifice or fasting. We do all these things as a sign of our appreciation for the earth-shattering gift, that came to its full fruition two thousand years ago in the betrayal, trial, torture, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
As a school, we have chosen a very specific manner of self-sacrifice (fasting), and we shared this plan with our students this past Tuesday. For all of us, I think it is easy to forget the time before smartphones. As I know, we can all appreciate, that some aspects of this amazing invention have had negative consequences on our students in their relationships. Therefore, it would be hard to imagine a more appropriate, productive, and ambitious form of self-sacrifice than to fast for a few hours a day from these amazing but addictive devices.
In total, we are asking our community to commit to a total of 28 hours of fasting from our cell phones. That is not so much, right?!
However, we are asking that those 28 hours be observed one hour at a time and spread over all twenty-eight days of school that fall between February 14th and Easter. For the fifteen minutes of break, the ten minutes of passing periods, and the thirty-five minutes of lunch, every school day, we, as a community, are committing to a fast from our cell phones.
For many students (and adults) in our MCP community this will be a challenging but doable journey. We are also fully aware that for some students (and adults) in our community, at times this will feel like taking on a frightening and “impossible!” journey. Well, what an AWESOME opportunity to explore our limits!
I ask that as parents, you encourage your child to embrace these 28 hours of self-sacrifice. I ask that you continue to partner with MCP in building the tools of self-stewardship in our students, that are so necessary in our modern world. I ask that you frame this challenge in its proper place as a profound spiritual exercise in our Lenten Journey. And, as always, I thank you for your partnership in this most important of tasks, in service to a deeper life with God and a deeper life with one another.
Yours in Christ,
Mike Susank
Principal

MCP Parent Feedback Survey
Good Afternoon Royals Family - As I reaffirmed in my Royal Pride message last week, now is the ideal moment for us to seek out feedback from our parent partners. We aspire to be a truly exemplary school, but we also realize that all schools have blind spots, areas for potential growth that are potentially known by parents and students, but not always known to school leaders.
I ask that over the next several days all MCP parents would make the commitment to investing in just a few minutes of your time, to help us become an even more exceptional school. We look forward to hearing from each of you. This survey should take less than 15 minutes to complete. Please click on the link and make that critical investment in our growth.
As always, we thank you, everyone, for your support and partnership. Survey results will be aggregated by the school and reported back to our community in the coming weeks.
Yours in Christ,
Mike Susank
