ROYAL PRIDE WEEKLY
January 27, 2023
Hello Royals Family!
Catholic Schools Week is a national event that has been celebrated by institutions around our country for nearly fifty years. Every Catholic school recognizes this week in their own way and at MCP we celebrate with dress-up days, rally’s, and mass. Details about these events are found in the school calendar and on the MCP website. We are looking forward to a week that highlights the incredible privilege of studying (and working) in this very special place called Mission College Prep.
What makes all Catholic schools special, but certainly at MCP is our commitment to both faith and excellence. Ultimately, we exist as a ministry, whose purpose is to prepare young people for a Christian life; for a life that is worthy of a heavenly reward with Christ. We speak with honesty and passion when we talk about the intellectual, athletic, artistic, and social formation of the students within our care. Those are all areas of growth and facets of life that we are eager to develop within these young people. Those are all important areas for success in this temporal world.
But again, ultimately, this is not the world towards which we are aiming. It is the spiritual world, in communion with God, towards which Catholic schools are striving to direct our students. We praise and honor our creator God when we maximize our earthly potential, but that cannot be done in separation from our spiritual selves. All of what we do is, as our Mission states, ‘in service to deeper life with God and deeper life with one another.”
We look forward to next week’s celebration of Catholic schools and we thank you, everyone, for your support and partnership. Have a great weekend.
Yours in Christ,
Mike Susank
Principal

Canned Food Drive - Catholic Schools Week
In honor of Catholic Schools Week next week, we would like to invite you to join us by donating canned foods to help those in need in our community. Starting on Monday, cans can be dropped off to your student's F-period classroom through Wednesday morning. Each can is worth one Spirit Point. At our mass on Wednesday, the class will bring their collected cans and will present the donations by placing them at the base of the altar. There is no limit to how many cans you can donate just make sure to label them with a sticky note with your grade level in order for us to count spirit points. Help show your support to those in need and earn some spirit points toward a pizza party for your class along the way. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Drug Prevention: K-9
We value using a proactive approach to addressing the issue of illegal drugs. This year we will have several visits from local law enforcement officials during school days. Starting this month, Cal Poly University Police Department will be visiting with a K-9 Unit trained in narcotics detection. Our goal at MCP is to hold an ongoing conversation with students and families about the importance of maintaining a substance-free campus. The purpose and plan of this project is not to “catch” students, but rather to promote a drug-free MCP campus. The knowledge that a drug detection dog is used regularly on school grounds is often enough to deter the possession, trafficking, and use of drugs by students. Please note that no event precipitated our use of this method of illegal drug detection. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Thank you for your cooperation and keeping our students, staff and MCP community safe.
Felix Lugo, Director of Student Life
LOCKERS & LOCKS: Attention all students, you are encouraged to keep all of your belongings in your locker and to keep your locker locked at all times. Items left in hallways will be taken to the Lost and Found in the Front Office. Also, you may not use a lock that was not issued by the school. If you misplaced your lock, another lock may be purchased from the Director of Student Life for $5.00, Front Office.
ATTENDANCE: A detention will be given for every three tardies to any and all classes in a calendar month. Please be on time for school.
SAFETY is the number one priority for all of our students and the MCP community. If you feel you need to contact someone, we have a Text-A-Tip system to keep our campus safe.
Text-A-Tip: (805) 810-0162 Abuse/Bullying; Alcohol Abuse; Crimes; Depression; Drug Use/Sales; Fights/Pre-fights; Safety Concern for a Friend; or Threats to Campus Safety All texts are confidential.
