ROYAL PRIDE WEEKLY
October 27, 2023
Good afternoon Royals Family,
As the weather starts to turn to fall in our corner of the central coast, I hope you can reflect upon the past 10 weeks of school and find an abundance of joyful memories. As parents and family, the years of high school feel like they go by more quickly than for our students. I encourage us all to stop every now and then and reflect and recall all that has happened in your child’s life at MCP; moments of growth, triumph, challenge, and grace.
I hope time never passes so quickly that we fail to ever appreciate this journey. Thank you, as always for your partnership with Mission College Prep.
Yours in Christ,
Mike Susank
Principal

MCP Halloween Dress Code
MCP has a fun tradition of asking students and faculty & staff to dress up for Halloween. Included in this fun, at lunch we host a costume contest and rally in the gym. After school from 2:40 to 3:10 we will have trick-or-treating in the hallways. All students who are dressed up are encouraged to participate. Rumor has it that Mr. Susank hands out the LARGE candy bars. Please click the link to view our Halloween Dress Code.

College Night
Cuesta College will be hosting their annual College Night on Monday, Oct 30th from 5:30-8:00 PM at their SLO campus. Representatives from over 40 colleges and universities from across the U.S. will be available to speak with high school students and families about how to make informed decisions about college. Additionally, workshops in both English and Spanish will be held every hour on various college preparation topics: from how to create a powerful application, to athletic recruiting, financial aid procedures and scholarships, dual enrollment, and essay writing. Cuesta College staff will also be on hand to discuss and answer questions about the Cuesta Promise (the scholarship program offering all newly graduated SLO County high school students a fee-free fall and spring semester). This is a free event. Click the link for more information.

Student Community Service Opportunities
MCP students are required to complete community service hours each year. To help our students reach their goals, we are creating an interactive list of local community service opportunities for students on our MCP website. This list will be updated weekly with new opportunities as they arise. This list can be found on the MCP website under the 'Ministry & Service' tab, 'Service'. Scroll towards the bottom of the page for the list. Thank you for sharing your talents with our community.

Honors Physics Students are on a 'Roll'
MCP's Honors Physics students today in lab were assigned to determine where to place both a roll of toilet paper that is dropped and a roll of toilet paper that is unraveled to make sure that they hit the ground at the same time. The students experienced the derivation of the equation using Newton’s 2nd Law for Rotation, measured the toilet paper rolls’ diameters, and by doing the derived calculations, determined where to place the unraveled roll and dropped roll so that they hit the ground at the same time.

Weekly Focus
Athletics
Athletics Update:
As we head into the final week of October it is time for our Fall Sports to get in playoff mode. The excitement of “survive and advance” is in the air.
Girls Volleyball The Lady Royals ended their Mountain League season in 3rd Place overall and earned a spot in the CIF Division 2 playoffs. The team will traveled to Bakersfield Christian on Tuesday to take on the Eagles. This is a rematch from preseason match back in August that went to game 5 with the Eagles eventually taking the match. These were two evenly matched teams and it was an exciting night of volleyball. Unfortunately, the Eagles won the night, but our Lady Royals made us proud. Congratulations on a great season!
Girls Tennis Our girls earned a berth in the CIF Division 3 playoffs and headed to Lompoc to take on the Braves on Tuesday. This has been an exciting year for the team and the chance to extend their season was truly a blessing. Congratulations to our Lady Royals on a wonderful season of tennis!
Cross Country The team will head to Laguna Lake Golf Course for the SLO County Championships this Saturday. The boys race starts at 10:00am with the girls to follow at 10:30am. Grab your coffee and pastry and come out and cheer the team on!!!
Football The boys head into their final game of the regular season this Friday, taking on the St. Josephs Knights on the Central Coast’s version of the “Holy Bowl.” The games will be played at St. Josephs on campus stadium. The varsity team is coming in with a record of 7-2 (4-1 in league) with the winner taking sole possession of 2nd place in the Mountain League. The boys have already qualified for the CIF Playoffs and hope to earn a top seed so we have another chance to play in front of our home crowd.
Thank you for your AMAZING support of our fall athletes. Go Royals!
Football - Oct 20- MCP (21) vs Righetti (12); game tonight @ St. Josephs 7PM
Tennis, Women's - Oct. 24 - CIF Div. 3 Playoffs - MCP (0) vs Lompoc (9)
Volleyball, Women's - Oct 19 - MCP (0) vs SLO (3); Oct. 24 - CIF Div. 2 Playoffs - MCP (0) vs Bakersfield Christian (3)
*If your team's varsity scores are missing, please email them to Karen Beaudin by Thursday for inclusion in the Royal Pride Weekly.
