ROYAL PRIDE WEEKLY
October 20, 2023
Dear Royals Family,
Homecoming Week on our campus is always full of energy. Which is probably a necessary interruption to the flow of school, as we make our way through the fall. This week is a jolt of spirit that seems to arrive every year, just as our energy reserves are being taxed to the limits. Undeniably, the week itself brings its own sort of exhaustion, but it also provides an invaluable boost to campus morale. The hallways are decorated, kids are dressed-up every day, we have three rallies, host two campus visits, plus the pageantry of the Homecoming Court ceremony, along with football of course, and finally, the Homecoming Dance! What a week!
Through it all we try to make sure we are keeping our sights set on our mission which is to bring students “to deeper life with God and deeper life with one another.” I think by all measurements the ‘one another’ part is in full swing, but ultimately, all of the ceremony, all of the crepe paper and streamers, the red carpet and crowns, are all still secondary to our covenant to grow these young people closer to an enduring faith. As we gather tonight at Cal Poly, we have much to celebrate and it is abundantly appropriate that we honor our court, and everyone in our community, for the gift of who they are. It is intended to affirm and to inspire. Let us also go forth from these festivities with a renewed commitment to our deeper calling.
After nearly thirty years in high school education, the end of Homecoming Week always feels like (what I imagine) the end of a marathon would feel: it was a noble cause and there were moments of both elation and exhaustion, and now I’m just tired. I’ve never run a marathon, however, as tired as I am, it is unimaginable what this week would be like without hundreds and hundreds of hours of volunteer work from our parents and our staff. Thank you all! It was an absolutely wonderful week.
Yours in Christ,
Mike Susank
Principal

People's Kitchen - Thank You!
Thank you to all Senior families who donated to October's People's Kitchen and the Sophomore students who served. On Saturday, October 14th MCP served almost 100 meals to those in need at the Prado center. This is now a consistent number that has increased since 12 months ago. important! This month we did have to purchase extra food on the day as some donations were missed…please don’t pass up the opportunity to help those in need - this might be the only hot meal that these adults and children enjoy that day. It wouldn’t be possible without the combined effort of all involved - students, parents, coordinators, volunteers and the Prado center...thank you.

Athletics
Athletics Update:
The fall sports season is heading into the final weeks of the regular season before playoff season begins. Below is a quick update for you:
Girls Golf - The girls will be participated in the League Final tournament on Tuesday. We have a few golfers who are looking to qualify for the CIF Individual Tournament including Kennedy Brough and Bree Heidesch.
Girls Tennis - Our tennis team also had their League Finals tournament this week. Two seniors, Karlie Erskine & Greer Wilson competed in the Ocean League Finals. Karlie made it to the second round of competition! Way to go Karlie & Greer on representing MCP this week at the Ocean League Finals!
Girls Volleyball - This is a big week for volleyball. The girls played Arroyo Grande at home on Tuesday in a match that should determine 2nd place in league. On Thursday, the girls traveled to SLO HS for the second SLO Town Showdown. The team will qualify for the CIF playoffs, that begin next week, and hopefully their seeding will get them some more home matches.
Football - Varsity football lost a close game on Friday at Arroyo Grande which drops them into a 2nd place tie with St. Josephs. The team hosts Righetti this week for Homecoming then ends the season at St. Joes on the 27th. The Royals have already qualified for the CIF playoffs and hopefully they earn a high seed so we can host playoff games at Spanos Stadium.
Cross Country - The team continues to improve with runners earning new personal records. This past Saturday they competed at the Dos Pueblos Invite. Nico Schmoll continues to lead the way for the boys team while freshman Kyleigh Morton continues to post the top times for the girls.
Powder Puff - It was an exciting Sunday night at MCP Field where the Upper Class Team had a little too much firepower for the Youngers. Both teams displayed tremendous grit and the girls athleticism shined in the night sky, under the lights. Congrats to both teams for "kicking off" Homecoming Week in exciting fashion.
Go Royals!
Football - Oct 14- MCP (3) vs Arroyo Grande (10); game tonight @ Cal Poly 7PM
Volleyball, Women's - Oct 17 - MCP (0) vs Arroyo Grande (3)
*If your team's varsity scores are missing, please email them to Karen Beaudin by Thursday for inclusion in the Royal Pride Weekly.
