ROYAL PRIDE WEEKLY
October 13, 2023
Dear Royals Family,
Over the course of my 28 years in Catholic high school education I have always enjoyed monthly mass, but occasionally I have found it to be more than just a moment of mere inspiration. Sometimes events in the news (and in my life) have rendered me truly desperate to be in community and to be in the presence of God.
In the past three decades I can say with relief, those moments have been few. But this week for me, and no doubt for many of our community, it was with both a heavy heart but also with true gratitude, that I was able to be with my MCP family and to begin the process of grief, and to pray for peace this morning by celebrating mass together.
I am grateful for Fr. Beto Vazquez of St. Patrick’s parish, for offering our October mass this morning, and as always for Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Buresh who led our Music Ministry and Campus Ministry students at our prayer celebration before school, and at mass today.
There is no shortage of pain in our modern world and while we cannot help but be affected by the events of the world, they are also powerful starting points for discussion with our students. In living out our ministry “to form women and men of scholarship, inspiration, and leadership,” we feel it is incumbent upon us to address these topics with our students, as appropriate to every age. We take this on with a mandate for interpreting the world to our students, through a Catholic lense. Media and other sources will often coopt the language of “us” and “them” and “right” and “wrong” and “they started it” and “the ends justify the means.” But the Catholic world view is framed differently. It does not have an agenda other than being pro-truth, pro-justice, pro-peace, pro-unity, pro-generosity, and it unequivocally affirms that all human beings, even in sin, bear an inseparable spark of the divine.
Thank you for your trust in this partnership and let us give thanks, again, for the many blessings that God has showered upon us. I hope that our world never surrenders the cause of fighting for justice and for peace. May God bless you and your families.
Yours in Christ,
Mike Susank
Principal
