ROYAL PRIDE WEEKLY
November 3, 2023
Dear Royals Family,
The month of November is often a time when students start to feel a slight easing of the stress of school. With both Veterans Day and Thanksgiving falling in the next few weeks, November is among the shortest months of the year with respect to class time. It is also the month when most fall sports will come to an end, which means students often have a little more free-time. Even though many students are transitioning to their winter sports, those programs are practicing, but games have yet to begin and that means late nights traveling are still few and far between. If everything feels just a little bit routine, that is normal. Enjoy it!
To those fall student programs that did come to an end in the past week or so, I want to offer every student who was involved in these programs our sincere thanks for sharing your talents with our community. This goes out to our Girls Golf Team, as well as Girls Tennis and the Girls Volleyball teams who both qualified for CIF playoffs. It has been our pleasure to watch all of you perform over the past several weeks and we could not be prouder of your accomplishments. To all of the coaches and moderators of these exceptional programs, thank you as well! Lastly, parents of these athletes, I hope you enjoyed these things even half as much as I have! Thank you to parents, for the good counsel to your children, the late nights, the early mornings, the dinners and meals, and all of the driving! The Cross Country and Football seasons are still moving along and we wish them the best of success as they move into post-season play.
As a reminder, the Marking Period for grades concluded today and grades, in the form of a Progress Report should go home to parents mid-week. This means that we are entering the last five weeks of the first semester (still time to push grades just a little higher!). Enjoy the extra hour of sleep on Sunday morning and come back to us refreshed on Monday.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Yours in Christ,
Mike Susank
Principal

Weekly Focus
Athletics
Athletics Update:
Wow, it's hard to believe that the fall sports season is wrapping up already. It has been an exciting few months for MCP Athletics:
Girls Volleyball - The girls battled all season long through different adversities and they stayed strong throughout the process. Their 2023 theme of "Faith over Fear" really guided them! The girls are lucky to have amazing leaders in Lyndsey Weisenberg, Ray Hais, Noelle Laird and Kristen Marsalek. Unfortunately their season ended on Tuesday in Bakersfield but the lessons learned will help the seniors (Ella Hais, Ella Blair, Shirley Horzen and Daniella Swedenborg) throughout their lives.
Girls Tennis - What an exciting year for Girls Tennis. They had some amazing performances and earned a CIF playoff berth. The season ended on Tuesday at Lompoc but the girls should be so proud of their accomplishments. Our seniors, including Karlie Erskine, Advaitha Kolan, Ashley Ornellas, Ava Szytel and Greer Wilson, will be missed. Big shout out for Coach Patience Santos for her genuine love and care for her team!!!
Cross Country - Our runners competed at the SLO County Championships last Saturday. It was senior recognition day for Praise Namuleme and it was awesome to see her compete. Praise has had some health issues and injuries over the past month so to watch her complete a race was truly satisfying!! The team is young and their growth this season has been amazing. The Ocean League championships are coming up this Saturday, November 4th at the Elks Rodeo grounds in Santa Maria.
Football - The regular season is now complete and the Royals ended up 7-3. The boys record and level of competition earned them the #1 seed in the CIF Central Section playoffs!!! The #1 seed comes with a first round BYE so their first playoff game will be Thursday, November 9 at Cal Poly. The senior class of Joey Clipperton, Lukas Elmerick, Tristan Farelas, Gabe Foster, Drew Harrigan, Conner Lopez, Gabe Rodriguez, Drew Souza and Luke Terry have made an indelible mark on the history of Royal Football!!
Girls Golf - Our young lady golfers showed some great promise this season. The future is bright. We will miss senior Keira Huckleberry but the rest of the team will be back and better than ever in 2024.
Great job Royals!
Football - Oct 27- MCP (0) vs St. Joseph (23)
*If your team's varsity scores are missing, please email them to Karen Beaudin by Thursday for inclusion in the Royal Pride Weekly.
