ROYAL PRIDE WEEKLY
May 3, 2024
Good Afternoon Royals Family,
If tradition holds, over the span of the month of May our students will often feel like time is alternating between days that are lightning fast and days that are almost unbearably slow. Homework slows down a little, across the board as classes shift to actual AP Exams (which up to now have been just a distant mirage), then final projects, and the culminating review for various final exams.
Spring sports will finish up their regular seasons and only a handful of contests remain. The days get longer (and warmer) and students should start to feel like they actually have a little more ‘free time.’ The last Gospel Assembly of the year was earlier this week, the last school-wide mass will be in the next couple of days, we will all blink and we’ll be at Royal Day, Final Exams, Baccalaureate, and Graduation. So, cherish those opportunities for slowing down, and be prepared to be looking back at May wondering ‘where did the time go?’
May is also the ‘month of Mary’ in the Catholic church and I hope that over the next few weeks all of us will take the time to pray for the many needs of our world and our community: peace, justice, wisdom, and hope. Life for our precious children is not getting any easier as the challenges of adolescence remain. Student mental health is on our minds and we are blessed with at talented team for student support, led by our Socio-emotional Counselor, Jen Blomfield and Counselor, Emily Lua. We will be providing students the tools to better navigate these challenges through workshops, presentations and classroom activities.
As always, our lessons will be delivered through the lens of a Catholic world-view, with prayer, love, and hope, in addition to the practical tools of awareness, reflection, health-resources, and community.
Thank you for your partnership and have a great weekend.
Yours in Christ,
Mike Susank
Principal

Month of Mary at MCP
May is the Month of Mary. For centuries, the Catholic Church has set aside the entire month of May to honor Mary, Mother of God. MCP will be honoring this tradition with two statues of Mary, one in the Mosaic Lobby and the second one in the courtyard. Please help us celebrate the Month of Mary by placing a flower at the base of the courtyard statue.

Important MCP Policy Change for Fall '24
The work we do at Mission College Prep is always aiming towards the highpoint of our mission, which is to foster deeper life with God and deeper life with one another.
In pursuit of this, we want our students to optimize all of the 20th century learning tools at their disposal. But these tools and their applications must always be in alignment with this mission; and over the past several years we have observed some troubling trends involving cell phone usage among our students...
