ROYAL PRIDE WEEKLY
February 10, 2023
Hello Royals Family!
I am pleased to announce that MCP has added a wonderful new staff member to our already amazing Counseling Department. Mrs. Emily Lua joined MCP on Tuesday of this week and has already begun to immerse herself in our unique campus culture. Emily has been a school counselor for the past three years. She has her Pupil Personnel Services Credential and possesses a Master’s Degree in School Counseling. Emily was born and raised on the Central Coast, in Nipomo and now lives with her husband and two young children in Guadalupe. Emily was introduced to a handful of MCP parents at our Parents Association meeting this morning, but certainly there will be many opportunities in the months to come for parents to become better acquainted with her.
Emily’s primary duties in the coming months at MCP will be the further development and oversight of our Tiered Academic Support program, but she will also be an integral part of the broad slate of services that are available through the counseling offices. We are thrilled to have her on our team.
Also happening this week, was a brief but important visit from our WCEA Accreditation team. MCP earned the full, six-year accreditation in 2020. This week’s visit was to affirm our progress on our existing Action Plan over the past three years. In their brief time at MCP this week, our visiting team was able to see (and affirm) that the school is absolutely on the path towards overall excellence. We will next begin the yearlong, self-assessment Accreditation project in the spring of 2024, and the formal Accreditation visit will likely be in the spring of 2026. For now, I wish to acknowledge and applaud, every member of the MCP staff whose dedication and professionalism over the past several years has been simply extraordinary!
And most certainly, ‘thank you’ parents, for your continued faith in our school. Have a wonderful weekend!
Yours in Christ,
Mike Susank
Principal

Weekly Focus
Weekly Varsity Results:
This is the last week of the regular season for winter sports. All of our teams (Basketball and Soccer) are poised to earn playoff berths based on this week’s contests. In addition our spring sports are starting their seasons with some pre-season contests. Here are a few highlights as of Monday:
Boys Basketball: The boys are still in 2nd place in the Mountain League with a record of 10-2 (18-8 overall). They are on the road for two games this week, and their Friday game at AG could determine if they hold on to 2nd place. They have already qualified for the playoffs and we look forward to seeing their draw on Saturday.
Girls Basketball: The girls end the regular season with home games on both Tuesday and Friday, so if you have not seen them play yet this would be a great week to catch a game. Friday night will be Senior Recognition Night, so circle your calendar. They have a very good chance of earning a playoff berth.
Boys Soccer: The team of ties, they have 9 of them on the season, will battle for a playoff berth this week with two remaining regular season matches. Thursday was Senior Recognition night at 6:00pm vs. Orcutt Academy.
Girls Soccer: The girls have two matches this week to close out the regular season. The games are home on Tuesday against Templeton whom they tied on Saturday. The girls have a very good chance of making the playoffs, but a win against Templeton on Tuesday would almost solidify it. Hope to see you at 6:00pm.
Wrestling: Yes you read that right. After some diligent work and the blessing of our Superintendent, we have been allowed to send 4 wrestlers to the CIF Division 5 meet on Saturday, February 11. The wrestlers are Gabe Ahumada, David Luera, Drake Mello, and Grant Mello. If you see them. please wish them well.

Community Service Reminder - Senior Students
This is a friendly reminder that all of your service hours must be complete in order to receive your diploma and have transcripts sent to your college of choice. Now is a great time to start making a plan to make sure this requirement is fulfilled. Senior students need a total of 60 community service hours and 22.5 school service hours (this is the adjustment from our covid years). Students are able to make up hours - but you can't move hours forward (example you completed all of your hours freshmen year and want to count it for all four years). Mrs. Buresh has a record of where you are at as of right now in her office. If you have questions stop by and see Mrs. Buresh. Graduation will be here before you know it - let's make sure your requirement is taken care of for graduation.
**If you transferred into MCP...you will have additional adjustments to these totals.
