ROYAL PRIDE WEEKLY
April 5, 2023
Good Afternoon Royals Family,
Our Christian faith is constituted by both Jesus’ death AND his resurrection; both Lent AND Easter. I must congratulate and thank our amazing Campus Ministry team led by Stephanie Buresh and Tara Anderson, who collaborated on an inspiring Way of the Cross presentation for our students. It was a powerful end to our school week and a great send off for our entire community.
It feels like we have been waiting for the Easter Break for months now, and I pray for a peaceful conclusion to our Lenten reflection and a joy-filled Easter Break for each and every member of the MCP Community.
On the MCP Handbook Calendar one sees that these next few days leading up to Easter are designated as “no school, no sports” days. This is in deference to the Triduum; the three days of Holy Week that commemorate the last hours of Jesus’ life on earth. In His prayerful agony, His torture and execution, we are given the full example of agape (total and limitless) love. These last days of Holy Week are to be reflective and restful for our students, staff, and families, so that we all can then enjoy the glorious celebration of Easter (and the week that follows!).
Thank you, as always, for your faith and your partnership.
Yours in Christ,
Mike Susank
Principal

Weekly Focus
Athletics Update:
Our spotlight shines on Boys and Girls Swimming this week. On Friday the boys team defeated Santa María 85-66 to secure the win! The boys placed first in every single event that they were entered in. The girls were able to place first or second in every event they were entered into! This was a great team effort and we had multiple athletes hit a personal record, get closer to CIF qualifying times, or qualify for the league championship meet to be held next month!
Thank you for your support of our student-athletes. Any opportunity you have to celebrate them and watch them play means a lot.
Baseball - Mar 29 - MCP (17) vs Orcutt Academy (0); Apr 1 - MCP (11) vs Atascadero (6); Apr 1 - MCP (2) vs Atascadero (8)
Beach Volleyball, Women's - Apr 4 - MCP (0) vs Santa Ynez (3)
Softball - Apr 4 - MCP (1) vs Arroyo Grande (5)
Volleyball, Men's - Mar 30 - MCP (0) vs St. Joseph (3); Apr 1 - MCP (0) vs Templeton (2); Apr 1 - MCP (0) vs Buchanan (2); Apr 1 - MCP (0) vs Cabrillo (2); Apr 4 - MCP (0) vs Santa Ynez (3)
*If your team's varsity scores are missing, please email them to Karen Beaudin by Thursday for inclusion in the Royal Pride Weekly.

Community Service Reminder - Senior Students
This is a friendly reminder that all of your service hours must be complete in order to receive your diploma and have transcripts sent to your college of choice. Now is a great time to start making a plan to make sure this requirement is fulfilled. Senior students need a total of 60 community service hours and 22.5 school service hours (this is the adjustment from our covid years). Students are able to make up hours - but you can't move hours forward (example you completed all of your hours freshmen year and want to count it for all four years). Mrs. Buresh has a record of where you are at as of right now in her office. If you have questions stop by and see Mrs. Buresh. Graduation will be here before you know it - let's make sure your requirement is taken care of for graduation.
**If you transferred into MCP...you will have additional adjustments to these totals.

Student Activities
COFFEE NIGHT - April 28: Coffee Night is when everyone can show off their talents and express themselves in creative ways. Taking place after the Newsies play on April 28, it is a school-wide event in which everyone can participate. We encourage students to sign up so we can make a playbill for the whole night -- click the link to sign up. Either way, we will have an open mic section. This is a very entertaining tradition at MCP -- a fun night of music, poetry, comedy, etc. -- and we would love to see all of our student's talents. All acts must be clean and school appropriate. We hope to see you there! FYI, microphones will be provided; performers must bring their own instruments.
FIRE EVACUATION DRILL: We will be having a Fire Evacuation Drill next Monday, April 3. During the drill you will be instructed to follow the directions of your teacher and staff. It is important to remain quiet as you exit the building so you may hear and follow directions correctly. Everyone will meet at the Emergency Assembly Area (Football Field) by exiting the nearest exit from your current location when you hear the fire alarm. Remember, if the fire evacuation drill takes place during class, line up on the field with your current class. If the fire evacuation drill takes place before school, during any passing period, break, assembly/mass/rally, or lunch, students are to line up with their next period class and teacher.
Fire Drills are serious. We want everyone to be safe at all times. Anytime you hear a Fire Alarm please start to evacuate the building by going to the nearest exit and meeting at the Emergency Assembly Area (Football Field).
SENIOR OFF-CAMPUS LUNCHES: Seniors, your off-campus lunches begin March 1, so remember you must turn in your off-campus lunch permission slips to Tom in the Front Office asap. This is the first step to receiving off-campus lunch privileges.
Car Pass Notice: There are times when students may need to go to their car during school hours. Please note that student must get approval before leaving campus each time. Starting today you must get approval from Mr. Lugo if you need to access your car during school hours. Do not leave your lunch in your car; you all have been issued a locker to secure your lunch, and other items (books, calculator, laptops, etc.).
LOCKERS & LOCKS: Attention all students, you are encouraged to keep all of your belongings in your locker and to keep your locker locked at all times. Items left in hallways will be taken to the Lost and Found in the Front Office. Also, you may not use a lock that was not issued by the school. If you misplaced your lock, another lock may be purchased from the Director of Student Life for $5.00, Front Office.
ATTENDANCE: A detention will be given for every three tardies to any and all classes in a calendar month. Please be on time for school.
SAFETY is the number one priority for all of our students and the MCP community. If you feel you need to contact someone, we have a Text-A-Tip system to keep our campus safe.
Text-A-Tip: (805) 810-0162 Abuse/Bullying; Alcohol Abuse; Crimes; Depression; Drug Use/Sales; Fights/Pre-fights; Safety Concern for a Friend; or Threats to Campus Safety All texts are confidential.
Dress Code Reminders: (please review Handbook pgs. 44-46)
Collegiate Wear: You may wear any collegiate clothing (e.g. Cal Poly, Ohio State, etc.). Please note it must be a university/college. We prefer MCP wear. Go Royals!
Daily Dress Code: "...small logos-no more than 3 inches square are acceptable but should otherwise be without words or lettering, except MCP attire."
Leggings/Joggers: Leggings/jeggings/joggers may NOT be worn at any time.
Shorts: Must be no higher than three inches above the knee. Note: The only acceptable shorts are those with belt loops. (Bermuda-style shorts are okay).
Dress Code at events: When in casual attire at special events (e.g. sporting events), attire should be neat, appropriate, and modest.
If you have any questions, please see Mr. Lugo in the Dean of Student's Office (Front Office).
