Important MCP Weather Update: MCP Campus Closed due to Weather

Good Afternoon MCP Families,

We have been advised by San Luis Obispo County authorities that the rain predicted to arrive over the next 24 hours is likely to result in flooding and other unsafe travel conditions, across widespread areas of our county.

Our campus is well positioned to endure through such conditions, but for both our families and for our staff, travel to and from our campus is a different story.  Unsafe road conditions are a concern, as is the fact that heavy weather stresses our county emergency systems in two ways simultaneously.  Heavy weather means that emergency events are generally more likely, at the same time when road/travel options are reduced by flooding. This is the epitome of undue risk for our community.

For these reasons I am announcing a campus closure effective at 8 pm this evening (3/9) and lasting until at least 6 am on Saturday (3/11).

Students should check their Canvas account for each of their Blue Day classes, as teachers have been given the approval to assign appropriate work for students during the closure.

This campus closure also cancels any/all MCP cocurricular events (and/or school related travel) that had been scheduled to start after 8 pm this evening and continuing until 6 am Saturday morning.  This is regardless of whether the event was to be hosted at MCP or at any other school or off campus location.

At this time, Saturday MCP events that are starting after 6am are tentative to proceed as scheduled.  However, please be on the alert for updates tomorrow.  Please also know that the school will always defer to your best judgment about the safety of travel to and from school events.

Tomorrow afternoon (3/10) we will reassess any potential Saturday cocurricular events, as conditions change, and we will communicate updates as appropriate.

Thank you for your patience and I hope you have a safe evening.

Yours in Christ,

Mike Susank, Principal
