MCP Distance Learning - Weekly Update

Dear Royals Family,

MCP will always endeavor to be proactive in our approach to planning and always with a firm commitment to the safety of our students, staff, parents, and families.

Throughout this crisis the principals of the Catholic schools in our Diocese have been in regular communication with the leadership of our Diocese in Monterey.  After monitoring developments over the past several weeks it is clear that any return to on-campus instruction prior to our scheduled date for the end of school (June 5 for MCP) is now highly unlikely.  In consultation with the Bishop, I am implementing the MCP Distance Learning plan through the end of this year’s instructional calendar.

I am heartbroken for our senior students and the impact that this virus has had upon the important events in the second semester, but especially upon our commencement exercises.  MCP remains absolutely committed to celebrating our seniors this year through a Baccalaureate Mass and Graduation event of some type, but where and when must, for now, be undetermined.  The entire Advancement department and Parents Association Graduation Team are exploring multiple possibilities for an appropriate event to send our seniors off into the world with our love and gratitude.  We will continue to monitor developments as they occur, make adjustments, and communicate them accordingly.

Exceptional teaching and learning at MCP will continue for the remainder of the instructional calendar.  We are currently preparing plans for final exams and as those plans become finalized we will communicate them to students so that they will have ample opportunity to prepare.

On behalf of our entire community of educators, I wish you and your family a Blessed and restful Easter celebration.  This week marks the closing of the Lenten Season in our liturgical year and the onset of the Triduum, the celebration of the Last Supper, Christ’s passion, and His Resurrection.  This is Christ’s Paschal Mystery and the summit of the Liturgical Year.  Christ’s suffering was real but even more so His dominion over death and His promise of life everlasting.  Thank you all for your incredible support of our school as we continue to provide the finest college preparatory education anywhere on the Central Coast.  Our school will be the catalyst to ignite our students’ growth in their whole person: mind, body, and spirit.

There will be an ‘after’ to this crisis and WeWill get there as a community.

Yours in Christ,

Mike Susank
