Mission College Preparatory Catholic High School is a diocesan secondary school serving 265 students, located in San Luis Obispo, CA. MCP seeks a head football coach to manage the school’s football program. The successful candidate will report to the Director of Athletics and will be responsible for all aspects of planning, managing, and directing a successful high school football program: practice, game preparation, academic matriculation, hiring staff, and developing positive player-coach relationships.
Position Responsibilities
* Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions that promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, good sportsmanship, and student faith development.
* Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students' athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.
* Employ a variety of instructional techniques consistent with the needs and capabilities of the student athlete group and sport involved.
* Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities, both in the classroom and athletic facilities.
* Keep informed of and ensure compliance with all C.I.F rules.
* Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extra-curricular participation.
* Work with Athletic Director in scheduling competitions and coordinating arrangements.
* Cooperate with other members of the school staff in planning and implementing instructional goals and objectives for the overall educational development of student athletes.
* Assist in the selection of equipment, instructional materials and budget.
* Assume responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, media relations.
* Comply with policies established by federal and state laws.
* Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school.
* Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
* Comply with all campus routines and regulations.
* Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents.
* Assess and respond to needs related to job responsibilities.
* Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the coaching program and implement changes based on the findings.
* Travel with student athletes and supervise the team.
* Instruct and advise students on C.I.F. regulations with regard to academic requirements.
* Maintain proper and appropriate discipline among students during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property.
* Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
