ROYAL PRIDE WEEKLY
April 28, 2023
Good Afternoon Royals Family,
As we all know, adolescence is a time of profound growth but during this same era few things are more unsettling to the adolescent mind than feeling a sense of exclusion. For this reason we are constantly striving to build our campus community so that it feels like a Family.
Technology has united the world by removing the barriers to communication, but tragically, it has not led to a sense of greater connectedness; quite the opposite. Increasingly, each of us (and especially our young people) is feeling perhaps even less connected than ever. At Mission College Prep we constantly endeavor to counter this trend. MCP has wonderful resources to partner with parents in building this community among our students. Please reach out to Jen Blomfield or Emily Lua, MCP’s Socio-Emotional counselors (or any staff member) if you have further questions or concerns, or just to further that partnership.
Ours is a culture of “care and accountability” that seeks to experience “deeper life with God and deeper life with one another,” and this is a cause that we will never abandon. In the pursuit of this goal, we want every student to feel like they belong; we are welcoming, we are inclusive, we are encouraging, and we honor the divine spark that is present in each of them. It is our hope that a constant message of love and hope provides the foundation for a life of faith, excellence, and service.
The first week of May is Teacher Appreciation Week and it seems only fitting that we take the time to honor the finest high school faculty and staff that one will ever find. Please be encouraged to reach out in the coming week and send a note of appreciation to these amazing educators who have endured unimaginable challenges and have continued to deliver an exceptional educational experience to our students.
Even though we are now fully returned from our much-deserved break, in the Catholic Church, the celebration of Easter Sunday marks only the beginning of a seven week season to bask in the joy of Christ’s triumph over sin and death, in His Resurrection. Let us maintain that joy as the school year winds towards its close. As always, enjoy your weekend, and God Bless.
Yours in Christ,
Mike Susank
Principal

Summer Classes in Your Plans?
As we roll into May and the last few weeks of school, the Academics Department wants to touch base about taking classes over summer. There are three main reasons students may choose to take a class over the summer: for "enrichment," for "advancement," or for "remediation." In all cases, MCP asks that the linked form be completed and submitted for approval before students enroll in a course. Click the link to access this form and review the email sent from Ms. Foster on April 18th with more information. Question, email Ms. Foster at [email protected].

MCP Swim Team Update - League Finals
MCP's Swimming team completed in the league finals this week and as coaches, we could not be prouder of these athletes.
For our girls - every race they swam in, they made it to the top 16 to swim during the finals session and score points for our team! Each girl set a PR in at least one of their races this season!
For the boys, almost each athlete made it back to the top 8, which allowed us to score even more points during the finals session. They too set PR’s this week which should qualify some of them to go to CIF. In addition, with only 7 boys present (versus 30-50 kids on each other team) we scored enough points to get 5th out of 8 teams!
The MVP of the meet was Matthew Kenefick; placing top 5 in each of his individual events and leading both of his relays to a top 5 finish as well!
We look forward to competing at CIF next week and progressing this swim program even further in the coming years. Thank you all for your continued support, we couldn’t do it without our MCP community!
Sincerely,
Coach Alec and Coach Andy

Attention Parent Volunteers – Parent Service Hours
Every Mission College Prep family is required to do a minimum of 15 MCP volunteer hours each year. Please be aware that the deadline for either completing your hours, or alerting me of future planned hours, was April 15, 2023. Families that have not met the 15-hour minimum by this time will be charged $25 per incomplete hour. Invoices for those incomplete hours have been billed through FACTS.
Outstanding Tuition Balances
It is Mission College Prep’s policy, as stated in the Parent and Student Handbook, that no student is permitted to sit for their final exams unless all tuition and fees are paid. The final exam in each course is a required component, so a student who does not sit for a final exam is in danger of rendering a semester grade of zero (F) for each course for which a final exam was not taken. In this current semester, final exams are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. Please be advised that all student accounts must be current by 12 noon on May 23, or affected students will be contacted, informed of the situation, and will not be able to participate in their final exams until further notice. Once all student accounts are paid, all missed final exams will be re-scheduled for the student, but please be advised that the instructors are not obligated to grade any exam taken after June 2, 2023, until the instructor returns in August, 2023, potentially delaying an updated official transcript for several months. Also please be aware that anyone on Tuition Assistance for next year will lose their Tuition Assistance if they are not 100% caught up with this year’s tuition by June 30, 2023.
We understand family circumstances with regards to finances can change, especially during these difficult and uncertain times, so please contact me or Mrs. Carlesha Harris immediately if there are any further questions. If you would like to make a payment, please contact Mrs. Carlesha Harris in the Business Office at [email protected].
Community Service Reminder - Senior Students
This is a friendly reminder that all of your service hours must be complete in order to receive your diploma and have transcripts sent to your college of choice. Now is a great time to start making a plan to make sure this requirement is fulfilled. Senior students need a total of 60 community service hours and 22.5 school service hours (this is the adjustment from our covid years). Students are able to make up hours - but you can't move hours forward (example you completed all of your hours freshmen year and want to count it for all four years). Mrs. Buresh has a record of where you are at as of right now in her office. If you have questions stop by and see Mrs. Buresh. Graduation will be here before you know it - let's make sure your requirement is taken care of for graduation.
**If you transferred into MCP...you will have additional adjustments to these totals.
College & Academic Advising
SCHOLARSHIPS -- Some available scholarships, besides the ones listed separately, include:
Parents Association
Thank you to all who have contributed to all of our activities and events so far! Don't forget you can use service hours AFTER April 15th for credit towards this year or 23/24 academic year. If you plan on using these hours for this year, please email Carlesha Harris so she is aware. Thank you!
Parent Service Hours Opportunities:
FIRE EVACUATION DRILL: We will be having a Fire Evacuation Drill next Monday, April 3. During the drill you will be instructed to follow the directions of your teacher and staff. It is important to remain quiet as you exit the building so you may hear and follow directions correctly. Everyone will meet at the Emergency Assembly Area (Football Field) by exiting the nearest exit from your current location when you hear the fire alarm. Remember, if the fire evacuation drill takes place during class, line up on the field with your current class. If the fire evacuation drill takes place before school, during any passing period, break, assembly/mass/rally, or lunch, students are to line up with their next period class and teacher.
Fire Drills are serious. We want everyone to be safe at all times. Anytime you hear a Fire Alarm please start to evacuate the building by going to the nearest exit and meeting at the Emergency Assembly Area (Football Field).
SENIOR OFF-CAMPUS LUNCHES: Seniors, your off-campus lunches begin March 1, so remember you must turn in your off-campus lunch permission slips to Tom in the Front Office asap. This is the first step to receiving off-campus lunch privileges.
Car Pass Notice: There are times when students may need to go to their car during school hours. Please note that student must get approval before leaving campus each time. Starting today you must get approval from Mr. Lugo if you need to access your car during school hours. Do not leave your lunch in your car; you all have been issued a locker to secure your lunch, and other items (books, calculator, laptops, etc.).
LOCKERS & LOCKS: Attention all students, you are encouraged to keep all of your belongings in your locker and to keep your locker locked at all times. Items left in hallways will be taken to the Lost and Found in the Front Office. Also, you may not use a lock that was not issued by the school. If you misplaced your lock, another lock may be purchased from the Director of Student Life for $5.00, Front Office.
ATTENDANCE: A detention will be given for every three tardies to any and all classes in a calendar month. Please be on time for school.
SAFETY is the number one priority for all of our students and the MCP community. If you feel you need to contact someone, we have a Text-A-Tip system to keep our campus safe.
Text-A-Tip: (805) 810-0162 Abuse/Bullying; Alcohol Abuse; Crimes; Depression; Drug Use/Sales; Fights/Pre-fights; Safety Concern for a Friend; or Threats to Campus Safety All texts are confidential.
Dress Code Reminders: (please review Handbook pgs. 44-46)
Collegiate Wear: You may wear any collegiate clothing (e.g. Cal Poly, Ohio State, etc.). Please note it must be a university/college. We prefer MCP wear. Go Royals!
Daily Dress Code: "...small logos-no more than 3 inches square are acceptable but should otherwise be without words or lettering, except MCP attire."
Leggings/Joggers: Leggings/jeggings/joggers may NOT be worn at any time.
Shorts: Must be no higher than three inches above the knee. Note: The only acceptable shorts are those with belt loops. (Bermuda-style shorts are okay).
Dress Code at events: When in casual attire at special events (e.g. sporting events), attire should be neat, appropriate, and modest.
If you have any questions, please see Mr. Lugo in the Dean of Student's Office (Front Office).
Mission College Prep creates a culture of care and accountability in partnership with families to form women and men of scholarship, inspiration, and leadership in service to deeper life with God and deeper life with one another.
