MCP College & Academic Advising Mid-Year Check In

Checking in from College and Academic Advising…

There are a couple of items to keep on your radar as we kick off 2023.

9th – 11th grade students:

1. Even though MCP is only completing the first week of second semester, students will be asked later this month to start the course selection process for next school year.

a. Counseling will meet with each grade level to present choices/options for the upcoming school year

b. Once choices are presented, forms will be available for all students who desire to take an Advanced Placement, Honors, or Dual-Enrolled course.  Forms will be reviewed by teachers and students will receive feedback as to whether the course is “Recommended/Recommended with Reservation/Not Recommended” prior to course selection.

2. PSAT Scores from the October test are available and will be shared with students later this month

3. Thinking about colleges?  If you are aspiring for a “Top 100” type school, now is the time to start discussions with your counselor as course selection/rigor in 10th, 11th and 12th grade has impacts.

4. Mid-year transcripts will be sent to all 10th and 11th grade families next week

11th grade students:

1. Mid-year transcripts were sent out yesterday to all seniors.  Please check and notify college counseling if you notice any errors or anomalies.  Transcripts will be uploaded to Naviance and sent out next week to all colleges that require mid-year grades.

2. Continue to update Naviance as you add colleges or hear back from schools.  Stop by college counseling if you would like us to help with Naviance updates.
