Class Spotlight: AP Macroeconomics

Ashleigh Watson (MCP class of 2002) was a guest speaker to Mr. Martin’s two sections of AP Macroeconomics students during the first week of the new semester. After graduating from MCP, Ashleigh graduated from Bowdoin College in Maine, majoring in Economics and German, later receiving a Master’s degree in International Relations and International Economics from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. Ashleigh shared her experiences there along with her career in economics at the US Treasury Department, Citigroup and the International Monetary Fund. With child number two on the way, Ashleigh brought along the father of their children, Sergejs Saksonovs who has been at the IMF for over a decade after receiving his PhD in Economics from the University of Cambridge. In addition to the students enjoying their insights, the two of them look forward to making this an annual event.

People's Kitchen - Freshmen - Thank You!

Thank you to all of the Freshmen families and Sophomore student volunteers who generously contributed to this past Saturday's People's Kitchen. Your generosity to our community is an inspiration.

People's Kitchen - Freshmen - Saturday, January 8th

Freshmen families, please remember to drop off your food donations at the People's Kitchen tomorrow, Saturday, January 8th. Contributions must be dropped off ONLY between 11:00-11:30 AM at the back entrance area off the parking lot. You will see volunteers from MCP there to accept your contribution and check your family off the list.

MCP has a reputation as a volunteer partner with People's Kitchen of San Luis Obispo to reliably provide a delicious hot lunch once a month at the Prado Day Center. January is hosted by the freshmen families. An email has been sent with all of the details to all freshmen families. Please click here to view the Assigned Food List. Especially in these uncertain times, hunger is present in our community every day. We are counting on you and your student to help us continue this student-run charity project. Questions, please email Stephanie Buresh at Thank you.

Class Spotlight: Sports Management

The Sports Management class at MCP is in its second year with 12 students and our teacher Mr. Hitchen. As a class, we put together Instagram sports posts, set up the field and courts for home games, and help manage sporting events. Our goal is to spread recognition of Mission College Prep sports through social media, and help better prepare venues for our matches. Some examples of our success are the Christmas Classic basketball tournament, helping at football games, and football, soccer, golf, tennis, and volleyball social media posts during their seasons. Throughout our time here, we help create a healthier, greater sports world for our school, and continue to have successful sporting events from a sports management point of view.
