Art

The Art Department at Mission College Prep is run by Caroline Vaccaro who has several courses that are available to students. To fulfill the VAPA credit they can take Art 1, 2, 3 or AP Art. They can also take Photography 1 and 2 and Cinematography 1 and 2.

The Art philosophy is that it is best to give students enough instruction for the project and enough room for them to make it into their own. We must give them many different examples to choose from. They must start to make choices, learn from mistakes and develop their own style.

Art 1
This one-year course surveys the world of visual arts in a multi-disciplinary manner. We focus our efforts in five areas—each of which has specific target competencies. Perceiving, develop perceptual skills and a visual arts vocabulary Creating, generating, organizing, and developing artistic ideas.

Presenting, Select artistic works for presentation and prepare artistic works for presentation Responding, perceive and analyze artistic works done by others Connecting, relate knowledge and personal experiences through the creation of art works

Based on: National Art Standards and California Art Standards

Art 2
The focus in Art 2 is to create a series of art works that requires more skill and expression than the projects created in Art 1. We will also go deeper into our understanding of what art is and is not. As with Art 1, we hope that after this course the student will maintain a lifelong relationship with creativity.

Art 3
The focus of Art 3 is to create a series of art works that master skills. Artists have choices on what media they want to produce assignments in. They are starting to build skills that will prepare them for AP Art. This is a very independent studio class with given assignments.

AP Art
Our main objective in Art AP is to develop the artists' art and to create a theme for their art. They will produce 20 high quality projects. This means that they are producing almost one piece of Art every week.
