“Whether we are teaching, tutoring, or attending our students’ events, we are engaged in a way that speaks to the fundamental goal, that is to love one another.”

Student Alliance

Student Alliance began in the fall of 2009. The program is comprised of 40+ juniors and seniors who have committed to helping new students (9th grade and transfer) find academic and social success at Mission College Prep.

New students are assigned to a small group (4 to 5) of students lead by a male and female mentor. After training in the summer, the mentors are prepared to support and be a resource for their groups. These groups meet twice a month during lunch or break to share a meal or enjoy the treats mentors bring. Mentors call their group members to remind them about special schedules, formal dress days, and just to check in. Large group activities are planned for the entire Student Alliance community, such as a Tailgate Party for a home football game.

Mentors also specialize in study skills and organization support, working one-on-one with students who ask for or are referred for help. Each year, the leadership team of Student Alliance, a group of 5 seniors, take on a project for the year. The projects have included a Mistreatment education program, and a Learning Styles education program.
